Galante Vineyards is located in the rustic and picturesque Cachagua Valley, in the hills above Carmel Valley. The galante family, who has deep roots in the Monterey area, purchased the 700-acre property as a cattle ranch in 1969 (Owner, Jack Galante's great grandfather was J.F. Devendorf, the original founder and developer of the town of Carmel). In 1983, the Galante Family planted vineyards on 60 acres of their land, specializing in Cabernet Sauvignon. In 1993, Jack Galante decided to build a winery and use some of his grapes to produce ultra-premium Estate Bottled Wines. In addition to the vineyards, winery and cattle, Galante is also one of the largest growers of Garden Roses in California.
Galante Vineyards currently produces only a few thousand cases of ultra-premium Estate Bottled Cabernet Sauvignon. They also produce very small quantities of Merlot and Sauvignon blanc that are only available at the winery. The philosophy at Galante is to grow the finest grapes possible and let them speak for themselves through the wine. Several factors influence the quality of the grapes grown at the vineyards. Due to the extreme daily temperature variations in Cachagua, the growing season is very long with harvest normally occurring in mid-October. This long "hang time" causes the grapes to ripen slowly, intensifying their rich berry flavors. Galante also thins the crop to an average of two tons per acre providing a low yield of very high quality grapes. They do not use pesticides or herbicides in the vineyards and only irrigate when needed. These methods, and others, combine to produce the highest quality grapes.
If you enjoy winery events, you won't want to miss one of Galante Vineyards Summer Sounds concerts. Held throughout the summer months, these outdoor concerts combine wine, food and music by well-known artists. For the wine and rose lover, be sure to attend the annual Days of Wine & Roses held during September. This event includes a walking tour of the rose gardens and vineyards followed by an outdoor luncheon with music, games and more. Galante is also available for private parties and corporate events.
