Carmel Valley is a healthful place with an infinite variety of activities. There are four championship golf courses and an abundance of tennis courts, both private and public. Both the village and mid-valley shopping center has a fitness club for workouts, plus the Carmel Valley Racquet & Health Club offers both tennis and fitness--visitors are invited to come over for the day and use the facilities. Hiking is a favorite pastime especially in Garland Ranch Park, with trails wending their way up to the face of the Santa Lucia Mountains to a point where one can view the entire length of the Valley. Horseback riding is also a pleasure along Carmel River in Garland Ranch Park. Stonepine Equestrian Center offers riding as does Holman Ranch. Carmel Valley Road has a bicycle lane and there are smaller sideroads into the mountains that can be very challenging. A go-on-your-own wine tour through Carmel Valley is another kind of activity, one that can be enjoyed by anyone. This is a pleasant way to get to know the valley, visit its vineyards and tasting rooms, have a leisurely lunch, and check out the art & antiques stores.
